How to Say Goodnight in Arabic

“Tab masawuk” (طاب مساؤك) – Directly translated into meaning “Goodnight”, it’s the most common phrase used in Arabic speaking countries.

“Taslam” (تسلم) This phrase literally translates as “may you be safe” but it also carries connotations of wishing someone a peaceful restful sleep. It can be used with friends, family members or even strangers who you may not have known for long.

“Layla sa’ida” (سعيدة ليلة) – This phrase conveys wishes for a pleasant evening and peaceful sleep ahead. It can be used both with close friends and acquaintances.

“Gheir hanaa ya habibty” (حبيبتي يا هنا غير) which means ‘not here my beloved’. This expression implies that one would rather stay together than part company until morning arrives again.

“Masaa’ al-Khair” (الخير مساء) which translates as ‘good evening’. While this isn’t specifically meant to convey wishes for a good night’s sleep like some others do, it still carries warm sentiments towards whoever you’re speaking too

“Ahlan wa Sahlan fi laylatu al-qadr” (القدر لیلة فى سهلا و أهلا) Translated directly into English this means ‘welcome and easy during Laylatul Qadr’, referring to an Islamic period celebrated annually where believers pray all throughout the night in search of blessings from God.
