Located in Sitka, Alaska, many travelers going down the Chatham Strait stumble upon one of the states best kept secrets. Baranof Warm Springs is situated directly in the wilderness and offers nine different sections of pools to relax in while taking in a breathtaking waterfall. This small community of under 10,000 residents keep this underdeveloped warm springs in the wilderness maintained and have even built a public bathhouse to enjoy.

Baranof Warm and Hot Springs Pools

Often visited during the summer season, the remote landscape offers nine pools to choose from ranging in temperatures up to 124 degrees Fahrenheit that sit along the Baranof river. There is a quarter mile hike to the natural springs, but for those who rather not make the trek, one can also enjoy the locally built bathhouse which offers three private rooms with views of the Baranof bay. After a soak in the warm springs, feel free to jump into the cold plunge pool to cool down and get the blood flow pumping.

We do need to mention that getting to Baranof Warm Springs does require you to use a boat as there is no car access. The ride down the strait offers some spectacular views and only enhances the enjoyment of the springs once you arrive. You can also charter a boatplane in Sitka which takes roughly 30-45 minutes..

Baranof Lodging/Camping

There are two options for those looking to stay the night near Baranof Warm Springs. Option one is a local lodge called Baranof Wilderness Lodge. They off their own on-site hot tubs with a range of amenities and eat in kitchen. If you want to be one with nature, there is a 16 mile Baranof cross-island trail that offers several different campsites to choose from. Because it is an underdeveloped area, camping is rather primitive so don’t expect fire pits and tables to sit at.

Getting There

If you want to fly to the hot springs, there are floatplanes that leave Sitka, Alaska frequently. You can check the scheduled flight plans and expect about a 45 minute travel.

Warm Springs Bay is equipped with a public dock so boaters can also venture down the Chatham Strait to reach your destination. Since it is a rather big attraction within Sitka, you won’t have any trouble discovering where to anchor your boat.
