As one of the most popular attractions for both tourists and locals in Birmingham, Alabama, the Zoo consists of hundreds of different types of species ranging from pandas to hippos. In total there are over 550 animals from 175 species making this one of the greatest Zoos in the United States. If you plan on traveling to Alabama, make sure you put the Birmingham Zoo on your bucket list of places to go.

What sets this zoo in Birmingham apart from others is their conservation efforts with elephants. The exhibit “Trails of Africa” help educate every visitor on just how endangered the species is becoming and what efforts are being done to protect them.
Other than their elephant conservation efforts, the Birmingham Zoo also features a wide range of exhibits and demonstrations that showcase animals from 6 different continents. There are even interactive shows and tours where you can meet and touch different species, while learning the history of their existence.
If that isn’t enough to convince you to go, at least let your kids have fun by signing them up for Zoo Camp which offers different experiences such as Giraffe feeding, a train ride through the zoo, and zoo keeper chats. There is literally something for everyone to enjoy.
