Red Hill Hot Springs – Monroe, Utah
Located in the southern part of the great state of Utah lies a primitive hot spring known as Red Hill. Several close by hot springs tend to draw in the crowds making this a hidden gem where you can soak in the natural mineral waters in peaceful seclusion. This is one of our favorite Utah hot springs for its accessibility and minimal foot traffic.
The best part of Red Hill hot springs are the red rocks that surround you as you soak in the pools. During the early or late hours of the day they almost glow in the dim light and make for an unbelievable experience. Although the natural springs are located on private lands, the owners were kind enough to donate the area to the public for use of the pools year round.
Red Hill Natural Hot Springs Details
There are a total of four different soaking pools for you to enjoy. As you arrive you will notice at the peak of the hill sits the source of the geothermal water which then cascades down in a waterfall effect as it feeds into the different pools. The area is roped off to avoid any tampering or injury from the wet slick rocks.
Unfortunately it’s not easy to give temperatures of the pools as they can fluctuate wildly depending on season and air temperature. The top pool closest to the source is by far the hottest and on certain days it can actually be too hot to even attempt. As the water continues down it starts to cool down and as you will guess, the pools continue to get cooler the lower you go. This makes it the perfect way for each person to find the perfect soaking springs for you and your family to enjoy. If you are getting to hot you can quickly move to a lower tub or vice versa. Not many hot springs offer this luxury.
The pools themselves are rather small and will only feet a few people at a time. Luckily it doesn’t get too crowded so you won’t have to wait for a spot. However, weekends can sometimes draw crowds so be sure to get to Red Hill early or try a weekday. The water may also appear to be rather dirty, but it’s a combination of the mineral waters and the sediment it picks up as it flows down the red rocks. Don’t worry as the high temperatures keeps the water rather clean and still great for your skin.
