Have a Nice Day in German

How to Say Have a Nice Day in German

Walking through the shops of Germany I would leave every store and the owners would yell back at me “Einen schonen tag noch.” This was not one of the phrases I was familiar with, but I assumed it was some version of goodbye and would say it often when leaving a home or store. I was able to find the translation to this phrase and it meant “Have a nice day”.

When being a visitor in another country you want to go home knowing you left a good impression. Your polite, mind your manners, and make sure you can communicate the best you can in a way you are perceived as personable and kind.

Keep in mind, have a nice day is something visitors say to be kind and most of the residence that live there understand this. However, have a nice day is not usually something you will hear Germans say to one another. They do not say these types of things to everyone just to be polite, so when saying it to one another for little reason seems insincere to Germans.

Examples of how to say have a nice day in German

“Thanks for the meal, have a nice day”
“Danke für das Essen, einen schönen Tag noch.”

“My meeting is over, so I am going home. Have a nice day.”
“Mein Treffen ist vorbei und ich gehe nach Hause. Einen schönen Tag noch.”

“Thanks for your help. Have a nice day.”
“Vielen Dank für Ihre Hilfe, einen schönen Tag.”
