Have A Good Day in German

How to Say Have A Good Day in German

When I was getting ready to vacation in Germany I wanted to be sure I knew how to properly speak with the people around me. It was important to me that I learned how to say anything that would show I was polite and educated.

“Have a good day.” was one of the phrases I made sure I looked into before I left. In German this would be said, “Haben Sie einen guten Tag”. Keep in mind this is not a typical phrase in Germany. More likely than not you will hear. “ich hoffe, du hast einen schönen Tag.”. “I HOPE you have a good day.” or “Guten Tag” which simply translates into good day.

It’s very common when greeting someone you follow up on a “good day” with a handshake and eye contact or a hug and a kiss on the cheek if you were close with the person.

Examples of how to say have a good day in German

“Ich hoffe, Sie alle haben einen schönen Tag.”
“Great meeting everyone, I hope you all have a good day.”

“Guten Tag Professor Julian. Ich habe deine Lektion heute Nachmittag genossen”
“Good day professor Julian, I enjoyed your lesson this afternoon.”
