How to Say See You Later In Chinese

If you’re saying goodbye for the day, one of the most common phrases is ‘Huítóu jiàn’ (再 见). This literally translates as ‘see you later’, so it can be used both when seeing someone off or when meeting them again later. It is also very polite and formal.

Another option is ‘bu yao li kai’ (不要离开), which means ‘don’t leave’. This can be used in more informal situations with friends and family members who you are close with.

For a casual goodbye among peers or friends, ‘ba ba’ (拜拜) might be suitable – it literally translates as bye-bye but carries less formality than other options like zai jian.

Snother casual expression could be ‘xiao xi la’ (小时候了), which literally means ‘little time now’, implying that your time together has come to an end for now but will continue at another point soon enough.

Something slightly more poetic there’s always ‘yi hou zai jian’ (一后再见). This phrase literally translates as ‘see each other after a while’.
