How To Say Cheers in Spanish

By

Western countries have always been known for their traditions and heritage that date back hundreds of years. Some of the first known cheers and toasts came from Kings in Europe who used it to welcome people who came to their halls and help seal peace between countries.

It was always a time for celebration and that still holds true today. Spain is no different as they enjoy social gatherings where they can share stories of how their day went or just hang out with good friends and family. If you plan on visiting Spain it would be wise to brush up on some popular Spanish sayings. One such term is how to say cheers.

Cheers in Spanish

Salud (Pronounced: Sah-lud) – The most common cheers said among locals is Salud. The meaning of this term is “to your health”. You may also hear people say it if someone sneezes, but in this case we are using it for raising your glass.

Chin-chin – A more informal way to say cheers is by saying chin-chin.

Summary of Spanish Cheers Drinking Toasts

Spanish drinking toasts are a part of the country’s rich cultural heritage. While there is no one universal toast, some of the most popular ones include “salud” (cheers) and “¡felicidades!” (congratulations). In addition to these two traditional phrases, many variations exist depending on the region or occasion.

For instance, in Catalonia it is common to hear people say “Visca el català!” which translates roughly as “Long live Catalan culture!” When giving a Spanish toast, it is important to remember that you should make eye contact with everyone in the group and raise your glass before saying anything. This gesture signifies unity and respect for all those present.

After making this gesture, you can then offer your chosen phrase or words of encouragement such as wishing good health or success for those around you. Drinking alcohol has been an integral part of Spanish social gatherings since ancient times so having an understanding about how to give proper Spanish drinking toasts can be helpful when attending parties or celebrations in Spain. It will show respect for local customs while still allowing everyone present to enjoy themselves responsibly.
