You’re Welcome in French

By

The French culture pride itself on good etiquettes. From bonjour meaning hello, good morning, or good day, to merci meaning thank you, there’s a greeting for virtually every occasion. In fact, it is proper to answer a thank you with you’re welcome. The common phrase used to say you’re welcome in French is – je vous en prie.

How to Say You’re Welcome in French

Je vous en prie – This is the formal way to say you’re welcome in French. When you give a gift or do a favor, and the person expresses gratitude by saying merci meaning “thank you,” your automatic response will be je vous en prie meaning “you are welcome.” This is often considered as a basic rule of politeness. It shows that you were happy to help or accept their expression of gratitude.

When used graciously, this French greeting phrase is a perfectly polite form of expression. It can also mean no worries, no problem, sure, of course, or its nothing. You are allowed to use the French greeting phrase among family, friends, and in a casual atmosphere.
