Details about Profile Falls

The upper section consists of a series of cascades that plunge over a rocky ledge into a small pool below. This is where most visitors take photos and enjoy the beauty of Profile Falls. The lower part contains a larger drop, which is often referred to as “the big drop” due to its impressive size and power. From here, the river continues downstream through several other smaller waterfalls before eventually merging with the Ammonoosuc River near Bethlehem.

One unique aspect about Profile Falls is its location within White Mountain National Forest, making it one of only three official scenic sites within this region (the others being Flume Gorge and Kancamagus Highway). As such, there are no commercial establishments or roads leading directly to the site – instead visitors must hike along trails from nearby locations such as Route 3 or I-93 for access. This adds an element of adventure to any trip to see these majestic falls!

In addition to admiring their natural beauty, visitors can also explore some interesting historical sites around Profile Falls including remnants from former logging operations dating back more than 100 years ago when much of this area was still heavily forested by white pine trees used for lumber production across New England states like Massachusetts and Maine during this time period. Additionally, hikers may come across old dams built by early settlers who attempted unsuccessfully at utilizing hydroelectric power generated by these powerful waters in order to light homes throughout this rural part of northern New Hampshire.

Overall, Profile Falls offers something special for everyone looking for outdoor activities near Franconia Notch State Park. Whether it’s taking stunning photographs or simply exploring nature trails around these spectacular waterfalls, the falls are well worth visiting if you ever find yourself traveling through northern NH!
