Following the famous Ocean Drive from 5th street to 15th, Lummus Park Beach is known for its fantastic people watching and color stained lifeguard towers. But this beach is not just about basking in the South Florida style. It also is a great place to spend an energetic day packed with fun water sport activities or just lounging by the cool blue Atlantic.

Activities

Swimming, sunbathing, jet-skiing, biking, people watching, volleyball, paddleboarding, and biking are just a handful of the activities you can enjoy at Lummus Park.

The area is also part of Miami’s Beach Walk, meaning it’s easy to hit the concrete and wander towards many other iconic sandy destinations Miami Beach is known for.

The seemingly endless beach promenade is the perfect place to rent a bike or strap on a pair of rollerblades and discover some of the sights and sounds Miami is famous for.

Ocean Drive, which runs parallel to the beach, is dotted with Art-Deco architecture. You could fill up a whole day just exploring all the magical art that Miami has to offer.

Amenities

Lummus Park is plentiful with amenities like showers, public restrooms, volleyball courts,  concessions, and ample locations to rent beach gear like umbrellas or chairs.

Behind the beach, you’ll find a sprawling green space filled with swaying palm trees and great locations to rest in the shade after soaking up the hot Florida sun.

The park also features a playground, open field space, outdoor workout equipment, walking trails, and even a playground dedicated to younger children.

Much like other popular sandy destinations, parking can be quite a pain to navigate. Fortunately, there are several parking decks in the area available for use daily. Just make sure you get there early.

Nearby Attractions

The Art Deco Historic District is the highest concentration of Art-Deco architecture in the Miami area and is located between 5th and 23rd street, right near Lummus Park Beach. Once the night settles in and the beachside fun starts to wane. It is a great option to find yourself touring the over 800 Art-Deco buildings in the area.

Fun Facts

Miami is a very LGBT friendly city, but the stretch of Lummus Park Beach that falls adjacent to 12th street is known as the hub for both tourists and the local LGBT community.

Lummus Park was outfitted with around 114 dim LED lights that illuminate the walkways of the park after dark. This feature helps the sea turtles nesting in the area make their way towards the surf without being distracted by the park’s bright lights, which they mistake for the moon.

Lummus Park Beach is also the host of the South Beach Triathlon.
