Details about Hickory Nut Falls – Chimney Rock
The Hickory Nut Gorge, where Hickory Nut Falls is located, was formed millions of years ago when molten lava pushed up through cracks in Earth’s crust to form deep gorges with steep walls on either side. This gorge eventually filled with water from nearby lakes and rivers creating what we now know as Hickory Nut Falls.
Visitors will enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding landscape including Table Rock Mountain, Lake Lure and even parts of South Carolina! The waters at Hickory Nut Falls originate from several sources such as creeks feeding into Upper Creek which then flows into Lake Lure before finally reaching the falls themselves. Due to its powerful flow it has been known to flood during heavy rains so visitors should take caution if visiting during these times!
