Darwin Falls

Darwin Falls

By

Darwin Falls is a stunning waterfall located in Death Valley National Park, California. It’s one of the most popular attractions in the park and it’s easy to see why! The falls cascade down a rocky cliff face into a large pool at the bottom. The waterfall cascades down over 500 feet of rock walls into a deep pool below that creates an incredible sight to behold.

Details about Darwin Falls

As you approach Darwin Waterfall from its base campground, you will be able to feel its power emanating through your body as you get closer. If you want to try something a little more unique, there’s nothing quite like standing beneath this massive cascade feeling both awe inspired by its beauty and humbled by its grandeur.

The water source for Darwin Falls comes from an underground spring which flows year round even during periods of drought. This makes it especially unique as most other waterfalls in Death Valley dry up during times without rain. Swimming is allowed at Darwin Falls so long as you use caution when entering the water due to slippery rocks and uneven terrain beneath its surface.

The falls were named after Charles Darwin who explored the area during his travels around the world on board HMS Beagle from 1831-1836. It was during this time he developed some of his theories about evolution which have become widely accepted today as part of scientific fact. The hike to reach Darwin Waterfall requires a certain level of physical fitness due to its location at 6200 ft above sea level with steep terrain surrounding it. However, those that do make it to the top are rewarded with stunning views and opportunities for photos as proof of your trek.
