Bear Creek Waterfall is one of our favorite places to go in Ouray, Colorado. This scenic waterfall is an attraction for both locals and visitors from all over the world. It cascades down the side of a rocky mountain with stunning views of the San Juan Mountains surrounding it.
Details about Bear Creek Falls
The falls are situated on Bear Creek, which flows from the Uncompahgre Gorge to the Uncompahgre River. The falls cascade down a steep cliff face and plunge into an emerald pool below. This scenic waterfall is surrounded by wilderness and tall cliffs that add to its beauty and serenity.
Views of this amazing waterfall can be found atop a bridge overlooking it or a short hike down for a refreshing dip in its swimming hole during warmer months. The area around Bear Creek Waterfall offers plenty of opportunities for additional activities such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, and more! Hiking trails lead up to the top of the gorge so visitors can get close enough to feel the mist from the cascading waters as they traverse through winding paths. Rock climbers will enjoy scaling the walls near the base of this mighty falls while anglers may find success fishing for trout at nearby Bear Creek Reservoir, Clear Lake or Twin Lakes Reservoirs.

Take Highway 550 South for approximately 4.5 miles until you reach a sign that reads “Bear Creek Falls”. Turn right onto the dirt road and follow it for 0.7 mile to the parking area located at the end of the road.
From here, walk down a short hill to get to Bear Creek Trailhead (located near Box Canyon). Follow this trail for about 1/2 mile or so until you reach Bear Creek Waterfall – an impressive 70-foot cascade!
