Directions to Thompson Falls

Thompson Waterfall is located in the Bankhead National Forest near Double Springs, Alabama.

To get to Thompson Waterfall from Birmingham:

1. Take I-20 E/I-59 N toward Gadsden for approximately 50 miles until you reach Exit 279 (Highway 33).

2. Turn left onto Highway 33 and drive for about 13 miles until you reach a four way stop sign at County Road 929 (aka Littleville Rd.). Turn right here onto CR 929 and follow it for 8 miles until it intersects with County Road 1010.

3. Turn right onto CR 1010 and then take the first left onto Forest Service Road 350 (also known as the Sipsey Fork Rd.). Follow this road for about 4 miles until you come to an intersection with another Forest Service road on your left – FS 524A. This will be just before crossing over Thompson Creek bridge. Make sure not to cross over the bridge!

4. Turn left onto FS 524A and follow it for 1 mile until you see a sign pointing towards Thompson Falls on your right hand side of the road – turn here! The waterfall is only 0.25 mile down this trail so make sure to keep an eye out for any signs of waterfalls or cascades along the way! Enjoy your visit to Thompson Waterfall!
