Rincon Point State Beach, Carpinteria

For surfers, Rincon Point State Beach is a mecca of sorts. It’s one of the most renowned surfing spots in the state of California and it receives wetsuit-wearing visitors from all over the globe every year, including some legends of the sport. Even if you’re a not surfer yourself, you will likely find the spectacle of Rincon Point State Beach something worth checking out. A great mass of surfers from all different walks of life gathered for the perfect waves breaking off of Rincon Point and rolling long and steady toward the shore.

If you’re not a surfer, nor are you interested in witnessing any cherished surfing landmarks, there are nearby shores that are much more amenable to the average beachgoer. Rincon Park County Beach, located right across the street, is a wide and sandy stretch of shoreline that’s great for sunbathing, swimming, and walking your dog. You should still check out the happenings at Rincon Point, but after that, head over to Rincon Park County Beach to kick back in the sun.

This spot is strictly known for its incredible surfing.

No dogs allowed on the beach.

There are multiple paid parking lots available.

Nearby Attractions

Rincon Park County Beach is right across the street. It’s a popular spot for fishing, birdwatching, swimming, and sunbathing. They have showers, bathrooms, and picnic tables. Dogs are allowed on the beach provided they are leashed.

Rincon Point State Beach is considered a part of Carpinteria State Park, although the two are actually separate of one another. Carpinteria State Park is under ten minutes from Rincon Point. The park offers campsites, hiking trails, tidepools, whale watching, and the Carpinteria Harbor Seal Preserve, a harbor seal rookery.

The Carpinteria Harbor Seal Preserve, one of four harbor seal rookeries in the state of California, gives you an opportunity to check out a whole herd of seals sunbathing on the shore, as well as a number of different birds nesting nearby. Bring your binoculars.

Rincon Point is ranked number 24 in the book 100 Best Surf Spots in the World

Rincon Point State Beach is the home of the annual Rincon Classic surf competition. The competition is usually scheduled for January, but is often postponed until the surf conditions are perfect. Age groups range from Under 12 Gremlins to over 55 Legends.
