You definitely won’t run out of things to do at Mission Beach in San Diego. It may be a mere two-mile run on a narrow sandbar, but it is absolutely packed with attractions and activity.
From rollerblading, and skateboarding on the paved bike path, to water sports and more leisurely activities like sunbathing or gathering around a bonfire after sundown, this beach has something for everybody.
Additionally, there’s Belmont Park, an oceanfront amusement park with a full-sized rollercoaster along with several other rides, an arcade, an indoor swimming pool, mini-golf, and more. Between the beautiful Southern California scenery, and the endless amount of things to do, Mission Beach is one of San Diego’s can’t-miss destinations.

Dogs allowed on the beach as long as they remained leashed. During the peak season, from April – October, dogs are permitted before 9 AM and after 6 PM, while from November – March, guests can bring them after 4 PM.

Public parking can be found near Belmont Park, Santa Clara Point, or South Mission Beach.
Nearby Attractions

The Oceanfront Walk, which runs all the way through Mission Beach, can take you south to Mission Bay jetty, or all the way north, past Pacific Beach, on to La Jolla. There are numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and more along the way.
Sea World San Diego is five minutes away from Mission Beach.
The previously mentioned Belmont Park has almost too many attractions to name. Aside from what has already been listed, they have laser tag, a zip line, a rock wall, an obstacle course, and multiple places to eat.
Head south on Ocean Walk boardwalk to get to South Mission Beach where you’ll find a calmer atmosphere with volleyball nets, basketball courts, grass parks, playgrounds, and more.
Fun Facts
Belmont Park is nearly 100 years old and its roller coaster, The Giant Dipper, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
California pop-punk band Blink-182 filmed the majority of their music video for the song “M+Ms” at Belmont Park.
