Neptune Beach is a charming beachside community that offers access to the water from almost a dozen public beach access points along some residential streets in town. The city itself is located sandwiched between two other popular oceanside towns: Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach.
The beaches in the area carry the same laid back vibe that the town does. If you are looking for a reasonably secluded day by the water, then you can certainly find your own stretch of pristine white sand to call home for the day.
The water is perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing by the tranquil Atlantic.
Activities
Swimming, sunbathing, surfing, paddle boarding, boogie boarding, and fishing are popular in the Neptune Beach area.
If you find the right time of day, Neptune Beach can be an excellent spot to catch the sunrise as it glows across the shimmering water. Since the beach tends to be less populated, the experience can be exceptional.
Surfing is another popular recreational activity here. The water is usually fairly warm, and the waves are some of the best on the east coast.
Amenities
Since Neptune’s beaches aren’t located at beach parks, there aren’t too many amenities to choose from. Some beach access points will offer outdoor showers and bathrooms, but you’ll have to scope this out when you get there.
One big thing to keep in mind is that parking is at a minimum. Because most of the beach access points are on residential streets, you will most likely have trouble finding a spot.
For the best chances at getting a parking spot, head down to the beach access at Seagate St. and Oceanfront. Here you will find 20+ spots for the public to use.
Nearby Attractions
If you have your pup with you or are just looking for a great location to relax and have a few drinks, you should check out Brewhound Dog Park and Bar. This expansive dog park offers plenty of places for dogs to play off-leash and a full bar featuring local beers and spirits.
If you want to spend some time in a luscious green space, then make sure you head to Jarboe park. This often-overlooked municipal park is a great way to explore the community of Neptune Beach and have some fun in the grass and shade.
Fun Facts
Neptune Beach is a quasi-independent city. While it still votes in mayoral elections in Jacksonville, for the most part, government operations are managed by the municipality.
Up until 1931, it was part of Jacksonville Beach, which is just a bit further south. It seceded from the town after a nasty tax revolt spread through the city.
